AHEPA Meetings/Activities for 2011-12

November – Sports Social; Sunday, November 20 at 3rd & Spruce CafĂ©; variety of appetizers & cash bar; featuring Eagles vs Giants game; social starts at 7:30 p.m.; game time at 8:20 p.m.

December – Family Holiday Party; Sunday, December 4 at 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Kraras Hall; Joint event co-hosted by Philoptochos Society & AHEPA; Bring your children and grandchildren and enjoy an evening of good food, holiday music, fun entertainment, and 'kickoff' of community outreach service project.

January – Business meeting at the Church; Sunday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m.

February – Dinner meeting with program speaker; Thursday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hitching Post Restaurant, Bernville.

March – Business meeting at the Church; Sunday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m.

April – Special event to be announced

May – Annual AHEPA Recognition Night; Sunday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Riveredge Restaurant; featuring Ladies Night with entertainment.

June – Dinner meeting with program speaker; Thursday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Deluxe Restaurant, Shillington.

Looking Ahead – 3rd Annual AHEPA Golf Outing & Pig Roast; either Saturday, August 25 or Sunday, August 26, 2012.

Christ G. Kraras Grand Marshall of 2011 Holiday Parade in Reading

The Reading Holiday Parade will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, featuring AHEPA member Christ G. Kraras as one of the grand marshalls.

The parade kicks off at 9:00 am from 11th & Penn Streets and will end at 2nd & Penn Streets. A reviewing stand will be at 5th & Penn Streets. Many of the parade participants will have treats for children along the parade route.

The Grand Marshalls this year are Christ G. Kraras and Michael Ehlerman, two leading Berks County businessmen and community volunteers.

Christ Kraras is a longtime AHEPA member as well as a successful businessman and community leader.

Pictures with Santa will be available immediately following the parade at Citizens Bank, Fifth & Elm streets.

In Memoriam: Aspasia Pappas Buck

Aspasia Pappas Buck, 86, of Reading, PA, passed away on Saturday evening, November 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Reading, PA.

She was the wife of the late Clarence W. Buck, who passed away in 2003.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Demetrious and Vasilia Drosellis Papadopoulos.

Aspasia had worked as a hairstylist at Carl's Beauty Salon in Reading for 25 years, until her retirement in 1977. After her retirement, she had served as a tour coordinator for White Star Tours in Myrtle Beach, SC.

A member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, she was a member of the Philoptochos Society, a former member of the Daughters of Penelope and had formerly served as a parish council person. She had also been a member of St. John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Myrtle Beach, where she had served as choir director and as president of the Philoptochos Society. For her commitment and service to her churches throughout the years, she was awarded the St. Michael's Medal.

She enjoyed reading, arts, and crafts and traveling.

Aspasia is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Voula and George Manukas of Raleigh, NC, and Vasso and Thomas Papavasilion of Landisville, PA; her 3 grandchildren: John and wife, Angie Papavasilion, of Columbia Pa., Christina and husband, Christopher Markulic, of Fuquay Varina, NC, and Peter and wife, Ami Manukas, of Wake Forest, NC; and her 4 great-grandchildren: Lynsey, Rachel, Elizabeth, and Michael; and by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Papavasilion and by her brother, George Papadopoulos.

Friends will be received on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 9-11 AM at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11 AM, the Rev. Thomas Papalos officiating. Interment in Laureldale Cemetery.
