In Memoriam: Dr. Christ L. Ganas, Past Chapter President

Dr. Christ L. Ganas, 85, of Exeter Township, passed January 3, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Sherrill (Yingling) Ganas to whom he was wed for 56 loving years. They felt they were best friends and soulmates. Born in Reading, Pa., he was the son of the late Louis C. and Vasiliki (Demakou) Ganas.

Christ was a graduate of Reading High School, Albright College and the University of Pittsburgh Dental School with a DMD/DDS. He operated his own private dental practice on North 5th Street in Reading for 33 years until his retirement in 1997. He considered his patients as friends.

He served with the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

Christ was passionate about being a community leader, serving on many committees and boards. He was a founding member of Saint Matthew's Greek Orthodox Church in Reading. Christ served as president of the Berks County Medical-Dental Bureau and Berks County Dental Society. He served on the Exeter Township School District Board of Directors for ten years, serving as president for eight of those years. Christ also served as chairman of the Exeter Township Supervisors for eight years.

Christ enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of a group of retired professionals, the "Magi." He was proudly one of their leaders and looked forward to meeting with them monthly.

A proud honor bestowed upon him was his induction in the Southern Junior High School Hall of Fame.
Dr. Ganas was a longtime member of the Order of AHEPA and previously served as President of the Reading AHEPA Chapter No. 61.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Louis Christ, of Pittsburgh; daughters, Christie Ganas, M.D., wife of Jim Sher, Esq., of Exeter Township; and Georgann Ganas, wife of Jose Alonso, of York, Pa. He was extremely proud of his children and loved them deeply.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9th at 11:00 a.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, Pa. A viewing will be held in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Chandler Lodge Masonic service and interment with military honors will follow the funeral in Charles Evans Cemetery.
